Upholstery and Pets "...According to Paul Romanick, who has more than 20 years' experience in the carpet cleaning
industry and developed the CitruSolution Process, "frequent vacuuming is critical to minimize the doggy smell. Hair will
work its way into furniture fabrics. Frequent vacuuming can minimize that. Once that has happened, a lint remover can be used
to pull that hair from the fabric."
Pet Accidents CitruSoution's Romanick reports that the best home solution to pet accidents, once all excess
has been blotted up or removed, is a blend of half water and half white vinegar. This will clean better than most store bought
products, and evaporate cleanly without leaving a soapy resoiling residue behind. "The soap can cause more problems than
the pet." Romanick says. "It is a very effective odor killer as well. As sad as it sounds, half water/half white
vinegar is better than retail solutions." His own CitruSolution Carpet Cleaning Process uses a citrus-based organic solvent
cleaning solution that eliminates the residual problems caused by steam, shampoo, and chemical cleaning, so your carpets stay
cleaner longer.
Pricing If your spring cleaning plans include a thorough carpet
cleaning. The Yellow Pages are full of services, some of which market special offers to pet owners. Buyer beware! Romanick
advises "Most carpet cleaners consider a pet a good excuse to hammer the client with extra charges. If they have a good
process that shouldn't be necessary unless there is an extreme odor issue. The occasional pet spot shouldn't pose a
big challenge for the cleaner."
